Our lovely waterfront location provides a peaceful setting to enjoy knitting with friends, both old and new. We offer day and evening classes, including beginning knitting, crocheting, weaving and specialty classes, private appointments and scheduled drop-in help sessions. We also have special workshops with some of today's most popular and experienced teachers from around the world.

Skill Levels, Homework & Pattern Purchasing

When signing up for a class, please note the skill level required and if there is homework.
If you do not hear about homework from us, please call the shop and inquire. Homework is designated by an * after the class name. 

Novice: Never even held a pair of knitting needles? You are a novice.

Advanced Beginner: Know how to cast on and bind off, knit and purl, increase and decrease without supervision.

Intermediate: Know a variety of stitches, how to use double points, knit in the round, and mid-level shaping without supervision.

Advanced: Know lace stitches and intricate stitch patterns, Fair Isle, and how to short row without supervision.

PATTERN INFORMATION: What does “purchase at shop”, “in-store Ravelry purchase” or “obtain at Ravelry.com” all mean?

Ways to obtain patterns continue to evolve. If a pattern on the ABYC Materials List indicates it can be purchased at the shop, that’s easy. We’ll just charge you for the pattern and hand you a hard copy. 

Some Ravelry patterns allow you to pay “in-store” and then Ravelry sends it to your Ravelry account or your personal email.

There are still other Ravelry patterns you can download either free or with payment on your own. 


 NOTE: If there is a class that you would like to take but it’s not offered when you are available, please let us know. Often we get requests to add a class at a different time, day, etc. If there are enough people interested we will certainly try and do that.

Class Policy: Class fee must be paid in advance to reserve your space. Class materials must be purchased at the shop in advance of the class. Teachers reserve the right to cancel a class with less than three sign-ups or a KAL with less than five sign-ups.

Cancellation Policy: Class and workshop fees are refundable or transferable up to two weeks before the start of the class. We cannot refund or transfer after that.

intro-to-weaving-sINTRO TO WEAVING      Skill Level: Novice
Curious about weaving? Now you can learn to weave on a Cricket rigid heddle loom right here at ABYC! Carla will teach you to set up the loom and weave a beautiful scarf using a variety of yarns. This little loom is the equivalent of a 2-harness loom, allowing you to weave items such as table runners, placemats, purses, bags and more. The skills and techniques you learn using a rigid heddle loom also transfer to other types of looms, including table and floor looms. Another great way to play with fabulous yarns.
Workshop fee is $75 plus materials and $20 loom rental fee.

potluckPOTLUCK WEAVING*     Skill Level: Adv. Beg./Intermediate
Got leftovers? Bring them to this buffet about color, texture and fiber, and we’ll see what we can cook up. We will see how to blend it all and try it out with some samples, then have a discussion and a demo on how to warp all those yarns together onto a rigid heddle loom. We will shop for a weft yarn to complement our creations, warp the looms and then start weaving. Come join us for some mouth-watering results.
Pre-requisite: Completion of “Intro to Weaving” at ABYC or equivalent. 
Must be able to warp a rigid heddle loom.

Little hand towels – the perfect finishing touch to any of your holiday decorating. Or the perfect gift for someone special! Use Brook’s Bouquet, a hand-manipulated lace technique to create an image in your woven hand towel. Think of all the design possibilities, for placemats, napkins, decorative pillow and more! Clasped weft weaving is a tapestry technique that produces diagonal lines in the woven fabric. Use clasped weft weaving as a design element to create this flat shoulder bag with cord and tassel embellishments. Celebrate peace and love. Pre-requisite: Completion of “Intro to Weaving” at ABYC or equivalent. Must be able to warp a rigid heddle loom.

Waffle-Weave-Dish-TowelWAFFLE WEAVE DISHTOWELS*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner/Intermediate
Does having a favorite dishtowel seem odd to you? Just wait until you use a handwoven dishtowel. Yes, they do make great gifts, but you will want some of your own as well. These organic cotton waffle weave towels are a great combination of form and function. This could be the start of a beautiful relationship! 
Pre-requisite: Completion of “Intro to Weaving” at ABYC or equivalent. Must be able to warp a rigid heddle loom.

Lace-SamplerLACE SAMPLER - WEAVE AN ORIGINAL*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner /Intermediate
Weavers will learn several hand-controlled open or lace weave techniques in a sampler. Open weaves can be used as borders, rows, or as an overall pattern. These techniques cannot be duplicated by a machine; your fabric becomes absolutely one-of- a-kind! 
Pre-requisite: Completion of “Intro to Weaving” at ABYC or equivalent. Must be able to warp a rigid heddle loom.
One session. Workshop fee: $40, plus materials and $20 loom rental fee
Saturday, December 16 • 12:30 - 4:00 p.m.


Bring in any knitting or crocheting project you need help with. This is also the place to come to get started on a project. You must know basic knitting or crocheting skills to attend these sessions.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays  10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. plus
Saturdays    9 a.m. - 12 noon and Wednesday evenings  6:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Session fee: $8.

Unable to attend our usual drop-in help sessions or need more individual help? Now you can schedule a one hour private appointment with Debbie.  
Fee is $45 per hour. 

KNIT /CROCHET: BEGINNING & BEYOND      Skill Level: Novice & Beginner
We now offer a combo class for those who want a beginning knit or crochet class, as well as for those who have completed the basic class but want to move forward with their new skills. Novices will learn the basics of knitting or crocheting with an easy first project. Those who have learned to knit or crochet can spread their wings with assistance.
Three or Four sessions. Class fee is $65, plus materials.

For this class, you will leave your needles and hooks home and try something a little different. Participants will have the opportunity to create four individual works that reflect their personal exploration using shapes, lines and stitching. You may begin to think differently about yourself while using just a simple running stitch.

In Socks 101 you’ll make your very first sock on larger size dpns with worsted weight yarn. The knitting will be fun, fast and easy and you’ll learn the basics…then you’ll be ready for all those wonderful sock patterns you’ve been admiring around the shop.

20170815 170434TECHNIQUE CLASS: BEGINNING SHAWLETTE*     Skill Level: Beginner
Every shawl knitter needs to walk before they run so Debbie is offering a simple, but interesting rectangular shawlette in two versions. All you need to know is how to knit and purl. Both versions will teach you a tab cast on and yarn-overs. Then, for the more adventuresome, you can add a simple lace pattern to create a lovely design in your shawl. Or if you prefer, just work with knits and purls to keep it simple. Either way you’ll get the knack of knitting a shawl, no matter what its size.

Have you always wanted to learn to knit cables? This easy scarf is a great way to learn. Select from one of several wools or wool blends for a scarf you'll be proud to give as a special gift – or wear yourself.

Cable-Bobble-ClutchCABLE & BOBBLE TOTE*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner & up
Fall into the season with this cozy, cabled little tote. You’ll learn how to make easy cables and bobbles while knitting in the round. Pattern is both written and charted. These little totes make great holiday gifts. 
Three sessions. Class fee: $50, plus materials.

Camp-WilkersonCAMP WILKERSON KAL*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner & up
Do you enjoy combining colors and playing with color? This arrow-shaped wrap is worked end to end. You’ll select four colors for your palette, then at the first session you can experiment with your color placement using the coloring sheets included with your pattern. Be adventuresome! Wrap alternates sections of garter, stockinette and a central eyelet panel to keep your knitting interesting and relaxing. You’ll have so much fun you’ll want to knit more of these wraps. Participants should be able to M1L, M1R, Kbl, K2tog.

fair isleTECHNIQUE CLASS: FAIR ISLE*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner & up
Sandra D. loves to share this traditional technique that has been around for generations. In one session you’ll learn to add color designs to anything you knit. This technique class is especially important if you want to join our Holiday Balls workshops, either to learn Fair Isle or to brush up on your skill.

Morrison-sockMorrison-Socks---2-pairsMORRISON SOCK KAL*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner Sock
Morrison is a DK sock with stunning cable up the side. It is a comfortable and stylish sock for both men and women. You can start it with either a casual rolled top cuff or a more traditional ribbed cuff. Since it is a top down sock, please be familiar with both knitting top-down and cabling.

xmas-ballsHAVING A “BALL” FOR THE HOLIDAYS*     Skill Level: Intermediate
These Fair Isle holiday designs will add a festive touch to your home this holiday season. Decorate your mantel, table, tree or gifts, add them to your wreath or garland, or give them as presents to friends and family. There are both traditional and whimsical designs to select from, so plan to come to as many of these Friday morning sessions as you can. 
Workshop fee: $10 per session, plus materials.

TECHNIQUE CLASS: TIPS & TRICKS TO FIX IT*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner & up
If you find you need to back out your knitting to fix a mistake, or maybe aren’t sure what to do, come spend a couple valuable hours learning and practicing a variety of tricks to fix your mistakes. You’ll feel empowered!

CONTINENTAL KNITTING*     Skill Level: Adv. Beginner & up
Want to know why some European knitters knit so fast? Ever envied the speed with which Continental knitters complete a project? You, too, can learn this efficient technique for knitting and purling---in just one class.
