AW21: Birch Bark Runner
Learn a new technique! Create an interesting texture with this supplemental weft and boutonné table runner design. The designer, Jennifer E. Kwong, was inspired by "birch trees and winter walks in the woods". What color will your trees be?
Completion of Intro to Weaving at Alamitos Bay Yarn Company or equivalent is recommended.
You should be able to independently warp a rigid heddle loom.
Materials and Equipment Required:
Loom with 15" minimum weaving width
8-dent reed
2 shuttles
5mm straight knitting needle (or similar object - chopsticks work great!)

Yarn in the model is 1 cone of Beam (warp - 540 yards needed) and 2 cones of Mallo (weft - 380 yards needed for main color and 90 yards for complimentary color). Both yarns are by Gist. Other options are available, just stop by.
Yarn for the class must be purchased at Alamitos Bay Yarn Company before the first day of class.

Please bring your loom, stand, and these supplies to all weaving classes: warping peg, heddle hook, brown paper to fit the width of the back beam, waste yarn, cardboard roll to fit front beam, scissors, tapestry needle, pencil, and paper for note-taking.

Amanda has been creating with fiber for twenty years. She became a self-taught crocheter in 2003 and picked up the love of weaving and knitting over the last several years through classes at Alamitos Bay Yarn Company. Amanda has taught rigid heddle weaving since 2019.
